Walk-in Screenings
The El Paso Center for Diabetes offers complimentary Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and blood glucose screenings on a walk-in basis.
What is an HbA1c screening?
HbA1c screenings are a quick and easy way to measure your average blood sugar levels over the past two or three months, usually through a blood sample taken from a finger prick. Come into the Center at your convenience during our business hours, no appointment necessary. Fasting is not required.
What is blood glucose screening?
Blood glucose screening measures the concentration of glucose in your blood. A lancet pricks your finger, and a test strip + glucometer quickly read your blood sugar. This test monitors diabetes management and helps adjust treatment plans. Fasting (water only) for at least 8 hours is required.
How long does blood glucose screening take?
The simple finger prick takes only a short time in a private room. On a typical day, screenings finish in under 15 minutes.
The Center is proud to offer both HbA1c and blood glucose screenings completely free to the community, made possible by the generosity of donors.
