Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) Classes

The DSME classes at the El Paso Center for Diabetes are designed for adults with type 2 diabetes and accredited by ADCES.

About DSME Classes

The DSME program consists of a 1-hour initial assessment, 8 hours of classroom education, and a 1-hour personalized meal planning session — 10 hours total. Individual consultations bookend the group sessions led by our expert health educators.

Class Schedule

  • Week 1: Initial 1-on-1 Assessment
  • Week 2: Class 1 – Body functions, monitoring, physical activity
  • Week 3: Class 2 – Pattern management, hypo/hyperglycemia, meds
  • Week 4: Class 3 – Lab work reading, complication prevention
  • Week 5: Class 4 – Carbohydrate counting & label reading
  • Week 6: Personal Meal Planning Session

How to Enroll

  1. Physician faxes DSME referral form to our office.
  2. We contact you to confirm receipt.
  3. Benefits are verified with your insurance.
  4. We confirm coverage or discuss payment options.
  5. Your initial assessment is scheduled and enrollment complete.
