Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) Classes
The DSME classes at the El Paso Center for Diabetes are designed for adults with type 2 diabetes and accredited by ADCES.
About DSME Classes
The DSME program consists of a 1-hour initial assessment, 8 hours of classroom education, and a 1-hour personalized meal planning session — 10 hours total. Individual consultations bookend the group sessions led by our expert health educators.

Class Schedule
- Week 1: Initial 1-on-1 Assessment
- Week 2: Class 1 – Body functions, monitoring, physical activity
- Week 3: Class 2 – Pattern management, hypo/hyperglycemia, meds
- Week 4: Class 3 – Lab work reading, complication prevention
- Week 5: Class 4 – Carbohydrate counting & label reading
- Week 6: Personal Meal Planning Session

- Physician faxes DSME referral form to our office.
- We contact you to confirm receipt.
- Benefits are verified with your insurance.
- We confirm coverage or discuss payment options.
- Your initial assessment is scheduled and enrollment complete.
