There is an ongoing need for diabetes education and support services. Nearly 15% of El Paso adults now have diabetes, outpacing the national average of 11.3%. Diabetes education classes are full and wait times can exceed a month.
The new facility will feature two large diabetes education classroom settings, a teaching kitchen, a healing garden, private consult rooms, a diabetes resource room, and more. With the new location, the center is poised to expand services and cater to more participants. This expansion is estimated to lead to a 50% annual growth from our current client base.
There is a well-documented connection between individuals who take a diabetes self-management education class, which provides significant effectiveness in lifestyle changes and self-care for individuals living with diabetes.
The El Paso Center Diabetes has served the region since 1968. Over the last five years, there has been a surge in the diabetes population needing to be served. With a focus on personalized care and patient wellness, the Center aims to improve health outcomes and enrich the overall quality of life for individuals with diabetes. The new facility will feature a team of skilled and compassionate professionals, including registered dietitians, nutritionists, and health educators, all working together to enhance the well-being of those with diabetes.
The Center has worked closely with the Paso del Norte Health Foundation to grow its educational programs and has played a key role in the Paso del Norte Health Foundation diabetes initiative. Now, the Center is asking the community to be part of transforming the future of diabetes management.
