A cooking class provides the knowledge needed to manage diabetes, such as how to shop healthy, make healthy eating substitutions, cook healthy but delicious meals, and more.

A series of classes that includes cooking lessons from local chefs that teach recipes, how to shop healthy on a budget, how to make healthy subsititions and how to read labels on packaged foods.

New Mexico State University – Kitchen Creations

Locations:

Las Cruces, NM

A series of four classes on nutrition and cooking for adults with diabetes; teaches participants how to plan and prepare meals that manage carbs and promote heart health.

NMSU, Otero County Extension Office – ICAN – Ideas for Cooking & Nutrition

Program that inspires New Mexico famillies to make healthy food and lifestyle choices by teaching practical skills including cooking, food safety, and food resource management, providing evidence-based nutrition and food gardening classes, and more.

Project Vida – Bueno Para Comer

Locations:

El Paso, TX

A community-based Facebook page with the purpose of sharing and discussing healthy alternatives to traditional food preparation; Healthy Cooking classes on video, as well as other services that may benefit the community such as health fairs and other events.

In partnership with Live Active El Paso and Parks and Recreation, free cooking classes are offered each month at different centers focusing on seasonal items from local farmers. Classes are led by a chef and registered dietitian.

Texas AgriLife – Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program

Trained EFNEP educators teach basic nutrition, food safety, shopping on a budget, and food preparation skills to clients using hands-on activities and practical, easy-to-understand materials.  Educators have the resources and skills to conduct EFNEP nutrition education classes in person or at a distance for both adults and youth audiences.  Can serve both English and Spanish audiences.

Ysleta del Sur Pueblo – Cooking Well with Diabetes®
